Storage FAQs

Storage can make your system faster and more efficient. But how? These FAQs cover the basics.

A solid state drive (SSD) is a place to keep your operating system, applications, and files so you can easily access them. Unlike random access memory (RAM), an SSD is where you can save your data long term, even when the power is off.

One Windows, open “This PC” in File Explorer to view available drives and capacity. On macOS, go to “About this Mac” and select the “Storage” tab.

500GB is enough for general use on your computer. However, if you store a lot of media or use large applications and games, you may find that between 1TB and 4TB is a better fit.

Faster storage reduces load times and helps games start and run more smoothly. It also speeds up level transitions and in-game asset loading.

Many modern games recommend at least 50GB-100GB of free space. A 1TB SSD is a good starting point if you want comfortable room to play and plan to continue adding games to your library. For reference, one AAA game requires about 100GB of storage.
